This month’s featured writers Destiny Hemphill, Alan King, and Lesley Wheeler 

Destiny Hemphill is a poet and healer based in Durham, NC. She is a 2017 Callaloo Fellow and a 2016 Amiri Baraka Scholar at the Naropa Summer Writing Program. Her work has been featured or forthcoming  in Poetry, Scalawag, Frontier Poetry, and Obsidian. She is the author of the chapbook Oracle: a Cosmology (Honeysuckle Press, 2018).

Alan King is a husband, father, and communications professional. He’s the author of Point Blank (Silver Birch Press, 2016) and Drift (Aquarius Press, 2012). King has been nominated multiple times for a Pushcart Prize and the Best of the Net selection. He’s a recipient of the 2019 Michael J. Clark Award from Little Patuxent Review. A Cave Canem Graduate Fellow, King received his Masters of Fine Arts from the Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine. He lives with his family in Bowie. Lesley Wheeler’s latest book is The State She’s In, her fifth poetry collection. Her debut novel, Unbecoming, is forthcoming in May 2020, and her essay collection, Poetry’s Possible Worlds, in 2021. Recent work appears in The Common, Massachusetts Review, Ecotone and other journals, and she has held fellowships from Fulbright and the NEH. Poetry Editor of Shenandoah, she lives in Virginia.
